DIY Basket of Forever Succulents!

Don't you just love the idea of a basket of succulents that will last forever?  At least longer than any I've had in the past!  I decided to mess with the natural and make a basket of succulents using cardstock, Big Shot dies, ink, and sponges!  The feedback I'm getting from anyone that sees them in person is that they look so realistic!  The Old Olive one even looks fuzzy!  (I think that's the white craft ink I've added to it!)

So what do you think?  Do they look realistic to you?

Directions and Tips:

  • I found it easiest to cut all sizes of each color succulent at once, so I used half sheets of cardstock and cut all 7 (or whatever was needed) at once

  • For some of the succulent flowers, I used an extra one of the largest size to make them appear more full (You can see the extra one laying separate from the pile above and you can learn more about that by watching my video tutorial below)

Paper Succulent Sponging

Sponging Combinations and Tips . . .  experiment with colors, sponges, and daubers until you get the look you want . . . this is just what I did, but there are many ways you could finish yours!

  • FIRST sponge (with a Stampin' Sponge) all succulent flowers with the same color ink (concentrating on the center and top of petals, NOT the edges)
    •  3 large succulent flowers . . .
      • Sahara Sand cardstock . . . follow up by adding Rich Razzleberry Ink to the individual petal edges with a Sponge Dauber
      • Old Olive cardstock . . . follow up by adding White Craft Ink to the individual petal edges with a Sponge Dauber
      • Mint Macaron cardstock . . . follow up by adding Sweet Sugarplum Ink to the individual petal edges with a Sponge Dauber
    • medium succulent flower . . .
      • Pool Party cardstock . . . follow up by adding Sahara Sand Ink to the individual petal edges with a Sponge Dauber
    • small succulent flowers . . .
      • Sweet Sugarplum cardstock . . . follow up by adding Rich Razzleberry Ink to the individual petal edges with a Sponge Dauber
  • Use your bone folder to curl petals in the desired direction and assemble
